More About the University of Tennessee-Knoxville
Founded in 1794, UTK is proud of its humble beginnings as the first public university chartered west of the Appalachian Divide, and it also is big on tradition. UT Knoxville — which includes the UT Space Institute — serves the state by educating its citizens, enhancing its culture, and making a difference in people’s lives through research and service.

However, UT Knoxville is known as the flagship land-grant university of the UT System and also a public research institution. It is part of the UT System, UT Chattanooga, UT Martin, the UT Institute of Agriculture, and the UT Health Science Center.

UTK College Scholarships
To be eligible for university or college scholarships, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
This should be submitted to the federal processing center no later than February 15 before the fall of your freshman year. Tennessee residents must submit FAFSA to be eligible for the Tennessee Education Lottery Scholarship (HOPE Scholarship or TELS).
Scholarships and other awards are also monitored through the financial aid office at OneStop.
The UTK College offers close to 50 scholarships, many for multiple recipients. Each school — Architecture, Interior Architecture, Landscape Architecture has a Scholarships and Awards Committee. The committees determine scholarships each spring, awarded for the following school year, based on the terms specified by the donors who make the scholarships possible.
The number of scholarships and the size of the financial awards varies. You are encouraged to apply for scholarships independent of demonstrated financial need.
Incoming Freshmen
You must apply for admission by the November 1 deadline to be eligible to apply for competitive scholarships, including the category called Chancellor’s Scholarships.
Admitted students will receive an email with the link to the scholarship application, which you must complete by December 15. We strongly encourage you to apply for admission as early as possible.
Continuing + Transfer Students
The undergraduate scholarship application is available through MyUTK. It must be submitted by February 1 for university or college scholarships.
Graduate Students
Applicants and current students should complete this graduate scholarship application form and submit it in person to Peggy Melvin in Rm. 224 of the Art + Architecture Building or by mail at 1715 Volunteer Blvd, Knoxville, TN 37996, ATTN: Scholarships.

Utk Scholarships Financial Aid
Three types of Utk scholarships financial aid are available for students: scholarships, loans, and part-time employment.
According to the needs of the family and student, these can be offered individually or in combination.
Since 2004, the Tennessee Education Lottery Scholarship Program (or HOPE Scholarship) has been a resource for eligible students and can be combined with other scholarships and financial aid.

1. Architecture and Design
The Architecture and Design study abroad scholarship applicants must be undergraduate students with a declared architecture and design major. Additional scholarship funds are available for students interested in exchange programs.
No additional application materials are required to qualify for these extra funds.
Also, its students create innovative designs daily and understand the importance of taking them from concept to reality.
These types of design/build projects allow students to see their designs come to life while contributing to the common good of society.

2. Haslam College of Business
The Haslam undergraduate study abroad scholarship applicants must be undergraduate students with a declared business major.
Additional scholarship funds are available for Haslam students interested in exchange programs. No additional application materials are required to qualify for these extra funds.

3. Communication and Information (graduate)
The College of Communication and Information supports graduate students with multiple funding sources. Unfortunately, the funds available never meet the needs of all graduate students.
A limited number of assistantships and associateships are available to graduate students. These assistantships/associateships provide competitive stipends and tuition waivers (in-state and out-of-state).
Occasionally, assistantship/associateship opportunities arise in other branches of the university.
Students are advised of these opportunities whenever they arise. Graduate assistantships/associateships are normally renewable for up to two years for master’s students and three years for doctoral students, subject to the student maintaining a 3.3 grade point average or higher on graduate coursework and satisfactory performance in the job.

4. Tickle College of Engineering
The college and its departments annually award more than $1 million in scholarships to qualified undergraduate students. Students must be accepted into both UT and the college to apply for engineering scholarships.
Also, incoming freshmen, current/returning UT students, and new transfer students must apply by submitting the appropriate scholarship form. Students do need not to apply for specific scholarships as the Scholarship Committee will match qualified students with awards.
Scholarships are also awarded each academic year in the spring for the upcoming year.

5. Utk Law Scholarships
The Tennessee Law Scholars and Research Associates program is the premier scholarship program offered by the College of Law.
Scholars receive a full-tuition scholarship for in-state or out-of-state tuition, among other financial benefits.
Candidates admitted to this program typically have academic credentials in the 80th percentile of UT’s admitted candidate pool and have demonstrated experience, aptitude, and research interest.
Scholars also develop valuable research skills and work closely with faculty an average of ten hours per week during their six semesters of law school.
The Scholars retain the award for up to six semesters of legal study. Scholars must maintain a full-time course load, remain in good academic standing, and complete research assignments.

6. Utk Nursing Scholarships
The College of Nursing has scholarship opportunities available for students. Entering freshman students may be eligible to apply for university-level scholarships through the Office of Utk Financial Aid.
While some scholarships are based on Utk financial aid, others reward academic excellence, clinical promise, leadership or volunteer work.
Recipients of the College of Nursing scholarships are selected by the Scholarship Selection Committee in the spring semester, and funds are distributed the following fall semester.
